The World of Jane Austen
Talk

Who wore a lace cap in Regency England? Did Jane Austen trim her own bonnet? From fashion to prudent economy, Hong Kong Baptist University’s Assistant Professor (Department of English Language and Literature) Dr. Magdalen Ki, a specialist in Jane Austen, paints a fascinating picture of aspects of 18th century women’s lives and their culture over afternoon tea. An interesting guide for all fans of Jane Austen and her Pride and Prejudice.

Professor Magdalen Ki received her PhD in English Literature from the University of Edinburgh, specialising in Jane Austen studies. Publications include monograph Jane Austen and the Dialectic of Misrecognition (Frankurt am Main: Peter Lang, 2005). She has also authored papers for Brontë Studies, Poe Studies, English Studies, Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism, Literature Compass, Mississippi Quarterly, Renascence, Dalhousie Review, Renascence, and Theological Studies.
