“New Music, Fresh Ideas”: a Discussion Hosted by Evans Chan
Film/Talk
|
To create a chamber opera about Kang Youwei, a visionary thinker in modern Chinese history and his vision for a perfect China – his Chinese Utopia – is no easy task. Take a behind-the-scenes look at its creative process. In a series of talks, meet-the-artist session, backstage tour and exhibition, come and see all aspects of this production up close.
Join us for a special screening of Evans Chan’s Sorceress of the New Piano – The Artistry of Margaret Leng Tan – a renowned performer of new piano music and the world's first toy piano virtuoso – followed by a discussion, hosted by Evans Chan, with Professor Leo Lee of The Chinese University of Hong Kong and a Harvard alumnus, and acclaimed pianist Nancy Loo. In what promises to be a lively, wide-ranging conversation, the trio will explore the notion of “new music” and in relation to the HKAF-commissioned production Datong: The Chinese Utopia, for which Evans Chan is librettist.
